GREAT BARRINGTON -- The John S. Watson Christmas Fund raised a total $29,475 in this year’s drive, $4,475 over its goal of $25,000.
The fund is named for the late John Watson, a native of Great Barrington and a reporter for the Berkshire Eagle. Watson inaugurated the fund under the name Community Christmas Cheer Fund and ran it until 1963 when it was re-named in his honor.
Both clothing and food certificates are mailed out the second week of December allowing families time to redeem them before Christmas.
