PITTSFIELD -- Krista Kennedy, an art teacher at Monument Mountain Regional High School, has been awarded the inaugural Berkshire Arts Educator Award from IS183 Art School of the Berkshires.
Twenty county K-12 art teachers were nominated through a public nomination process. All were honored on Thursday, April 25, at IS183’s annual Art Educators Reception, held this year at the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield.
The award was developed to honor individuals who consistently go above and beyond to inspire imagination and creativity in their students. The 2013 Berkshire Arts Educator Award came with a professional development stipend of $1,183 -- designated by a private donor -- to be used toward an arts enrichment activity of their choice. The recipient is expected to keep IS183 informed of how they invested in their enrichment.
"We live in a time where the school culture is about testing and creativity is not well thought upon. This is a really important time for us to push problem solving and creativity, that’s our job as art teachers," said Kennedy while accepting the award.
All nominations were reviewed by and the winner was selected by a panel of educational professionals and community leaders.
