Pregnancy Support Services of Berkshire County Inc. has awarded its annual Claire L. Smith Memorial Scholarship to Pittsfield High School’s Krystal L. Ferrari and Taconic’s Dominique M. Todd. This year’s awards were $600 to each winner.
Ferrari and Todd also graduated from the Helen Berube Teen Parent Program on Friday, June 6, at South Congregational Church.
The scholarship is available to any Berkshire woman who has matriculated, or is a high school senior who is either pregnant or has given birth prior to completing graduation requirements and is actively raising her child, or who is a resident of Redfield House.
Both Ferrari and Todd are holders of the S.A.Y. It Proud Award as well as being members of the National Honor Society. Ferrari was a Student Council member at PHS and a Student Leader at TPP and a certified nursing assistant. She carries a grade point average of 92.9 and is enrolled at Berkshire Community College in the Pre-Nursing Program.
Todd has a GPA of 93.6 and will attend BCC in the fall as a member of the Childhood Education Program.
To date, Pregnancy Support Services has awarded $8,700 to teen moms for either education or for gaining employment to assist them in their role of motherhood.
