The following area residents were awarded bachelor's degrees on May 17: Kelsie J. Leon of Berkshire; Kristie L. Drosehn of Dalton; Tiffanie N. Tomashek of Lanesborough; Amanda A. Duquette and Katelyn J. Olds of Lee; and Alex Joseph Hamling of Pittsfield.
Joshua M. Bell of Dalton was awarded a graduate degree on May 14.
Lancaster Bible College
Daniel Karl of Lee graduated in May with a bachelor of science in education degree in health and physical education and a bachelor of arts degree in Biblical studies. Smith College
Hannah E. Schiff, daughter of Arlene and Gary Schiff of Lenox, graduated May 18 with a bachelor's degree cum laude. A 2010 graduate of Lenox Memorial High School, she majored in English language and literature.
Her undergraduate activities included four years as a defensive specialist for the Smith volleyball team and she was recognized as a student-athlete with a grade-point-average greater than 3.5 all four years of her career. In addition, she was named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Fall Academic All-Conference Team in 2011, 2012, and 2013.
In 2011, she participated in "Celebrating Collaborations: Students and Faculty Working Together," in which students showcase their scholarly work to the rest of the college.
In 2012 she became a First Group Scholar, awarded to the top 5 percent of students based on academic achievement. Schiff studied abroad in Norwich, England, during her junior year, where she published a blog that chronicled her experiences, and since 2013 has been a blogger for The Kollection, a music web site that introduces new music from emerging artists and musicians.
Schiff will be joining the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation in Sheffield as a communications associate.
Southern Vermont College
Lindsay Pilling of North Adams graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in business administration and management on May 10.
This spring, Pilling received a Campus Ambassador Award at the College's Honors Convocation. She was also inducted into Alpha Chi, a national scholarship recognition society.
Pilling is a graduate of Charles H. McCann Technical School in North Adams.. She is the daughter of Donna Pilling of North Adams.
U.S. Coast Guard Academy
New London, Conn.
Ensign Kristin Euchler, daughter of Barbara Malkas and John Euchler of Clarksburg, graduated May 21 with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering degree.
Euchler was the spring semester regimental commander of the Corps of Cadets, receiving among other awards, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Class of 1965 Mechanical Engineering Proficiency Award for demonstrating the highest proficiency in mechanical engineering, the National Society Daughters of the American Colonists award to the female cadet who has demonstrated the highest degree of initiative, competence, and scholarship in the discipline of engineering, and the Vice Admiral J.J. McClelland Memorial Award for demonstrating the most proficiency academically, militarily, and athletically, and who has been an outstanding leader with genuine affection for the Coast Guard Academy and its traditions.
Euchler was a 2010 graduate of McCann Technical School in North Adams where she was enrolled in the Machine Technology and Project Lead The Way pre-engineering programs.
Euchler will serve aboard the USCG cutter Alex Haley out of Kodiak, Alaska.
