The Mauricio Gastón Institute for Latino Community Development and Public Policy at the University of Massachusetts Boston will host a briefing titled "Latinos in Massachusetts: Focus on Pittsfield" from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Berkshire Community College.

"Latinos in Massachusetts: Focus on Pittsfield" is the fourth in a series of briefings the Gastón Institute hosts throughout the state each year to raise awareness of the current conditions, challenges, and opportunities for Latinos in local communities.

At the briefing, researchers from the Gastón Institute will present an updated statistical profile of Latinos in Pittsfield (including data on education and economic development); discuss areas of concern, growth, and opportunity for the Latino community in this region; and share policy and practice recommendations designed to improve the prospects for area Latinos.

Presenters will engage the audience in a discussion of the data’s implications. This community dialogue is intended to highlight strategies for how to change policies and practices that no longer meet the needs of Latinos in the region.

Mayor Daniel L. Bianchi will deliver the welcome remarks at the event.
