The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts will be offering Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program application assistance from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at the Great Barrington Farmers Market at the Great Barrington Fair Grounds.
The service is free and open to all individuals.
Formerly known as food stamps, SNAP eligibility is based on gross income, household size, and additional expenses. Food Bank staff will prescreen candidates to help them determine eligibility, and if qualified they can complete the application with the client.
SNAP applicants should provide as many of the following documents as possible (bring copies): Proof of identity (license or birth certificate); Social Security number; proof of Massachusetts residency (driver’s license, utility bill or tax forms); proof of earned income (pay stubs from the past four weeks); and proof of other income (Social Security income or pension).
Seniors 60+ and disabled individuals should bring proof of medical expenses greater than $35/month (copies of bills and co-pays), and non-citizens should bring their green card or immigration papers.
To speak with a SNAP coordinator before the event, call (800) 247-9632.
