The St. Luke’s Alumni Association recently awarded scholarships to women who are pursuing careers in the field of nursing.
Katherine Sadighi of Richmond and Meghan Marcella of Dalton were each awarded $1,500. Both women are pursuing graduate degrees as nurse practitioners at Russell Sage College.
Sadighi received the scholarship that was set up in memory of Rose Rogge Girardi, a 1943 graduate of the school of nursing. Sadighi is the daughter of Donna Dugan Sadighi, a 1974 graduate of St. Luke’s.
Marcella received an award that was set up by the family of the late Paul and Margaret Kelly Hickey; Margaret "Marge" Hickey died in 1980 and was a member of the St. Luke’s Class of 1940. Marcella is the niece of the late Electra Goodell Hanford, a member of the St. Luke’s class of 1933.
Eligibility criteria includes a grade point average of at least 3.0 and having completed one clinical year in the field of nursing. It is not necessary to be related to a graduate of St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing.
St. Luke’s closed in 1974 but the alumni association has remained active, sponsoring several social events per year, in addition to the awarding of annual scholarships. Part of members’ dues, bequests and other monies contribute to the scholarship fund. Linda Murphy is the chairperson of the scholarship committee.
