Drury High School has announced that Cori Ghidotti, daughter of David and Carrie Ghidotti of North Adams, has been awarded the Dr. Richard M. Ziter Science Scholarship in the amount of $5,000 during the Class Night ceremony on June 11.

The scholarship is awarded to a member of the senior class who demonstrates academic excellence, achievement in the sciences, citizenship, volunteerism and involvement.

A member of the Class of 2014, Ghidotti took a full honors and Advanced Placement course load, was inducted into the Nu Sigma and Pro Merito honor societies and graduated with high honors.

She was a member of the varsity soccer, swim and track teams for five years, being elected captain of all three her senior year. She served as an MIAA Student Ambassador and was awarded the WBEC Sports Caravan Outstanding Female Athlete Award this year.

Ghidotti was elected secretary of her class for four consecutive years and has been an active member of Student Council and yearbook. She has volunteered at the hospital and at the Adams Youth Center Inc. and has participated in several community service learning projects while a student at Drury.

She will attend Ithaca College in the fall where she will pursue a degree in physical therapy.

Ziter, a North Adams native and Drury High School graduate, established this scholarship in 2006. He spent many years as an opthamologist which sparked his desire to provide a scholarship to a student pursuing the field of science or medicine.
