The town of Washington has designated the length of Washington Mountain Road within the town as a Scenic Byway honoring American veterans of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A dedication ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at Washington’s Old Town Hall on Washington Mountain Road, approximately 5.5 miles south of the Dalton town line.

Signage marking the Scenic Byway will be unveiled at the ceremony and then placed on the road near the borders with Dalton and Becket.

Among the guests are state Sen. Benjamin Downing, state Reps. William "Smitty" Pignatelli and Paul Mark, Sheriff Thomas Bowler, members of the Dalton and Becket Select Boards, and a representative of U.S. Rep. Richard Neal.

Veterans groups will include the Color Guard from the Vietnam Veterans of Berkshire County, Dalton VFW, Dalton American Legion Riders, Patriot Riders, Veterans Coalition of Berkshire County, and the Here at Home Committee.

Washington Mountain Road runs for approximately 9 miles connecting the towns of Becket and Dalton.
