The "Climate Summer" anti-pipeline bike riders will arrive at the Canaan Congregational Church on Route 295 at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, to meet with the public and to speak to the "Stop N.Y. Fracked Gas Pipeline" committee meeting at the church starting at 6:30 p.m.
As a part of "A Better Future Project," the bike riders will ride to Richmond, Mass., and Canaan as their fifth and sixth stop of the summer.
These riders are spreading awareness of the Kinder-Morgan Pipeline that is proposed to pass through Massachusetts from West to East.
Climate Summer’s western Mass team consists of six college-aged students from across the country.
The bikers are planning special events on Thursday, July 24, in Malden Bridge, the site of a gas pipeline compressor station.
In addition, they will stop in key places in the Canaan area along the proposed pipeline route and speak with the affected landowner abutters and participate in "story telling." These bikers will also make some surprise visits to other area locations from July 24-25 and then return to Richmond for more activities.
