Professor Sylvia Bashevkin, daughter of Irving Bashevkin and the late Esther Bashevkin of Adams and Sarasota, Fla., has been named the 2014 recipient of the Mildred A. Schwartz Lifetime Achievement Award to be presented at the August meetings of the American Political Science Association in Washington, D.C.

The award recognizes scholarship and leadership in bringing the study of Canadian politics to the international political science community.

Bashevkin teaches in the Department of Political Science at the University of Toronto and is the author of numerous books and articles on Canadian, British and American politics.

She is a 1972 graduate of Drury High School in North Adams.
