The Berkshire Athenaeum’s Children’s Library has announced the winners of the annual Short Story Writing Contest. Stories were judged on their originality, appeal and writing style.
Winning entries, honorable mentions and works of merit will be bound and added to the Athenaeum’s collection for community members to read.
Winners will receive their awards at a special ceremony at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, in the Athenaeum auditorium. Jenn Smith from the Berkshire Eagle will be the guest speaker and Mayor Daniel Bianchi, will also speak.
The winners are as follows:
n Ages 7-8: First place, Sydney Lalime; second, Gabryela Y. Ortiz-Ramirez; honorable mention, Sebastian Dinsmore.
n Ages 9-10: First, Hannah J. Stroud; second, Miles Cece; honorable mention, Ian Corbett.
n Ages 11-14: First, Autumn Sheldon; second, Sarah Stroud; honorable mention, Lydia Loverin.
n Ages 15-18: First, Emma Lezberg; second, Mary Ward; honorable mention, Charity Stroud.
Cash prizes donated by the Friends of the Berkshire Athenaeum are awarded as follows: First place, $35; second place, $25; and honorable mention, $20.
