The Lee Chamber of Commerce will award three graduating seniors with academic grants of $1,000 each to be applied to the cost of attending college.
These grants are awarded yearly to student graduates who live in Lee and plan on attending a college or trade school. Students do not need to attend Lee High to be eligible for the grants; residents of Lee from other local schools may also apply.
The awards are based on scholarship, community service and scholar/athlete achievements.
To qualify for the Marie Toole Academic Scholar Award a student must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or greater.
The Lou DiGrigoli Community Service Award goes to the student who has given back to his/her community with positive service and has maintained a GPA of 3.0 or greater.
Athletes may apply for the 2016 Joe Sorrentino Scholar/Athlete Award if he/she demonstrates athletic and sportsmanship accomplishments, and has maintained a GPA of 3.0 or greater.
The deadline for submitting applications is Monday, April 25. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Applications can be delivered to the High School Guidance Department or mailed to the Lee Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 345, Lee MA 01238.
Applications must be postmarked no later than April 25. Applications must be accompanied by a recommendation letter and a personal essay. Announcement of the grants will be made on May 23.
Revenue generated by the Chamber's annual golf tournament provides the funds for the grants.
This year's Lee Chamber of Commerce Golf Open will be held June 8 at Greenock Country Club. Sponsorship opportunities are available; contact Bruce Singer, owner of Devonfield Inn, at 413-243-3298.
