After 85 years at the keyboard, legendary local pianist Hilda Banks Shapiro has made her first solo recording. A reception feting Shapiro and celebrating the compact disc's release will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting of South Berkshire in Housatonic.

The CD, titled "Hilda Banks Shapiro" and bearing a photo of her trademark red high-top sneakers, features pieces by Bach, Chopin, Mozart, Schubert, and Johann Strauss, as well as two rags by Scott Joplin and four Gershwin songs.

Per her request, all proceeds will benefit the church, for whom she plays each month.
