The North Adams Historical Society with observe the 270th anniversary of the siege of Fort Massachusetts at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the St. Francis Indian Ledge, 799 Massachusetts Ave.
The commemoration includes speakers, music, and the dedication of a specially carved statue of a St. François/Abenaki Indian. Historian James Durkee will share insights about the siege as will Ranger Robert Campanile.
The first 200 children will receive Fort Massachusetts coloring books from author Wendy Champney whose recently released book, "The Forgotten Ledge of Fort Massachusetts," is available at Heritage Park.
The Barracks room replica on the third floor of the Museum of History and Science in Building 5A at Western Gateway Heritage State Park is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
A replica chimney and its historical marker are located on the site of Fort Massachusetts behind the former Price Chopper parking lot.
