Next month’s two Democratic primaries for 1st Congressional District and Middle Berkshire register of deeds are particularly important because, with no Republican candidates in November, they will decide the race. This Friday is the deadline for those not already registered to do so.
Register of deeds is an apolitical position but because it is an elected office party affiliation comes into play. Anyone who is not a registered Democrat and wants to vote in that race or the race for Congress must change their party affiliation this week. Anyone who is not registered to vote has until Friday and anyone unsure of their voting status should check with election officials by then to clarify it.
The September 6 primary is a Thursday, not the usual Tuesday voting day, so voters must be on their toes this year. It is important that they are as the races to be decided in less than a month are important.
