GREAT BARRINGTON -- Upstairs Live at the Triplex will present the one-woman show "Lilia!" about the life of stage and film actress Lilia Skala, performed by her granddaughter, Libby Skala, on Sunday afternoon at 4 and Monday evening at 7:30.
Lilia Skala was Austria’s first female architect and a Euro pean stage star before the Nazis rose to power and took everything away.
Buoyed by a resolute faith, the Austrian actress fled to America without two words of English, labored in a New York City zipper factory before working her way up to Broadway and the silver screen -- eventually being nominated for an Academy Award for her performance opposite Sidney Poitier in "Lilies of the Field."
Libby Skala brings her indomitable grandmother and their mentoring relationship to life in a show she has been performed in Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, Canada, Ger many, London and Scotland.
Libby Skala’s non-solo work includes stage appearances with Rosemary Harris, Marian Seldes, Elizabeth Ashley, Jayne Atkinson, Ronald Rand and David Margulies and readings from books published by the Feminist Press at the Jewish Museum in New York.
Upstairs Live is located in the Triplex Cinema at 70 Railroad St. All tickets are $20.
