LENOX -- Academy Award-winning actress Olym pia Dukakis returns to Shakespeare & Company next summer to play Mother Cour age in Bertolt Brecht’s "Moth er Courage and Her Children."
Shakespeare & Company artistic director Tony Simotes will direct Dukakis and her brother, Apollo, in Brecht’s epic drama which will be mounted in the Tina Packer Play house, where the siblings performed, also under Sim otes’ direction, in "The Temp est" this summer.
The dates for "Mother Courage" will be announced in December, along with Shakespeare & Company’s other 2013 mainstage productions, which will include at least two Shakespeare titles and a few other surprises and special engagements.
"I’m absolutely ecstatic to have Olympia join us for our 36th season," Simotes said in a news release. "Our collaboration on ‘The Tempest’ proved to be a successful one both artistically and personally.
"Olympia (is) a dear friend and mentor. I’m eager to ex plore the depths of this fascinating play with her and Apol lo, and once again share her immense talent with our audiences."

"Mother Courage and Her Children" is set against the backdrop of the Thirty Years War and follows the fate of Mother Courage, an artful can teen woman with the Swe d ish Army, intent on keep ing her business and family alive amid the destruction of war.
