NEW YORK -- Steve Kroft of "60 Minutes" says the unexpected nature of his dual interview with President Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton shaped what he asked.
The CBS newsman said afterward he had been given only 30 minutes to talk to Obama and the outgoing secretary of state. So he said he thought it more important to talk about the nature of their professional relationship than about specific world events. The interview was conducted Friday and aired on Sunday.
He said the White House suggested the interview a little more than a week ago.
Kroft said he sensed respect and a genuine warmth between the president and secretary of state that many people might not have expected.
