Robert Downey Jr.'s son was arrested Sunday afternoon in West Hollywood on suspicion of cocaine possession, according to TMZ.

Police pulled up next to a car in which 20-year-old Indio Downey was a passenger around 2 p.m. Officers reportedly saw someone inside smoking something out of a pipe.

A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy pulled the car over and arrested Downey after allegedly finding cocaine in his possession, the website reported.

Indio -- who appeared in his father's movie "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" -- was released just after midnight Monday after posting $10,000 in bail.

His father released a statement to TMZ later Monday morning: "Unfortunately there's a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it. Also, there is a lot of family support and understanding, and we're all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he's capable of being.

"We're grateful to the Sheriff's department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale."

Maybe he'll get a superhero franchise out of it ... who knows?

As you know, Downey Jr. has a long history of drug addiction, which sent him to prison for a spell in the 1990s. He has recovered nicely, becoming one of the world's biggest box office draws with the "Iron Man" film franchise.
