Slice of life

Calling pizza lovers of all ages — taste test pizza from all over Berkshire County in one room while supporting services for local families impacted by a cancer at Moments House's sixth annual Slice of Life Pizza competition on Saturday.

Beginning at 6 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, you can vote on your favorite pizza — awards will be given for Best Sauce, Best Crust, Most Unique Pizza and Best Overall Pizza. Participating restaurants include: Arizona Pizza, Lanesboro; Bettys Pizza Shack; Dewey's Public House; Rainbow Restaurant; Lanesboro Pizza House; Berkshire Mountain Bakery; Papa Ginos; Papa Johns; Market 32 (Price Chopper); Mazcots Sports Bar & Grill; Olde Heritage Tavern, Tavern at the A and Zucco's Family Restaurant.

Tickets can be purchased online at and are $20 in advance for adults, $25 at the door; kids (5-12) $5 in advance, $7 at the door; 4 and under eat for free.

Party on

Kelly's Package Store on Main Street in Dalton is hosting a "Cocktail House Party" from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday.

To promote and celebrate their newly expanded liquor selection, the folks at Kelly's will be hosting guest mixologist, John Torra, from Methuselah on North Street in Pittsfield, who will prepare some of his "Signature Summer Cocktails" for you to sip.


"We've recently added dozens of new unique products. We'll also have some wine, wine cocktails, beer and beer cocktails for sampling," said Kollin Kozlowski, Kelly's Wine Buyer and CSW (Certified Specialist of Wine from the Society of Wine Educators).

Wine tasting

Pittsfield UNICO is hosting its ninth annual Wine Tasting event from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Berkshire Hills Country Club.

For $25, taste wines, beers and spirits from around the world. The event will also feature food, a silent auction and dancing. The DJ will be spinning tunes from 9 to midnight.

Tickets can be purchased at Elm Street Hardware, Ditore Motors on East Street or at the door the night of the event.

Scholarahip benefit

The second annual spaghetti dinner to benefit the Lindsey Ferrell Memorial Scholarship Fund will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Dalton Fire Station, 20 Flansburg Ave., Dalton.

Benefit breakfast

The Run to Home "Plate" breakfast buffet will be held 7:30 a.m. to noon Sunday at the Dalton Fire Station.

The breakfast, hosted by Cachats for the Troops, is $10 for adults, $5 for children and free for children younger than 3.

All proceeds will go to " Run to Home Base," a fundraiser for the Home Base Program.

Dutch food talk

Heidi Hill will give an illustrated talk, "Sustenance and Style: Dining and Food Ways of the 17th Century Dutch in the Hudson Valley," at 7:30 p.m Monday at the Stephentown Historical Society's Heritage Center, 5 Staples Road (corner of Garfield Road), Stephentown, N.Y.

Using Dutch genre paintings, paired with archaeological evidence, Dutch documents and 17th-century artifacts from New Netherland and Indian lands, Hill will illuminate the colorful and sometimes surprising daily life of the colonists and Native Americans through the foods they ate and their table and cook ware.
