Wildcats look to fill the voids

Coach: Jenna Gangell (1st year)

Last season: 19-6, won North Division and Western Mass. Division III championship. Lost to Archbishop Williams in state championship game.

Key returnees: Alyssa Kelly, Jr.; Nikki Laudon, Jr.; Courtney Picard, So.

The Wildcats lost Eileen Dooley, last year's All-Eagle MVP, and Stephanie Young, the All-Eagle MVP two years ago and one of the great players in Wildcat history.

In fact, first year coach Gangell lost all five starters from last year's Western Mass. champions and state runners-up.

There are bright spots, however. Returners Kelly, Laudon and Picard all saw action last year, and all made contributions. Those contributions were all key, as Lee once again made a deep run into the state playoffs.

That said, Gangell has an awful large number of holes to fill.

In addition, Gangell has a very young team this year, with four juniors, two sophomores and five freshmen. Those are encouraging numbers for next season, but this may be a rebuilding year for the perennially powerful Wildcats.
