WILLIAMSTOWN -- Mark Mills, the general manager at Waubeeka Golf Links, is leaving his position after 19 years at the popular public golf course.
Mills made his announcement via an email that was sent on Sunday to club members, staff, Berkshire County golfers and friends.
"After 19 years at Waubeeka Golf Links, I have decided to move on to a new challenge in the food and beverage industry," Mills said in the email. "Rest assured that I will remain engaged at Waubeeka through the end of the 2013 season to advise the highly competent staff while my replacement is found."
Mills departure comes with the club still up for sale by owner Jim Goff, a Berkshires native who lives in Denver, Colo.
"I would like to thank the Goff family for all of their support since they purchased Waubeeka in 2008 and a huge shout out to Jim Goff for all he has done for Waubeeka, myself and my family."
The title of general manager undersells all that Mills does at the club. In addition to creating a friendly and fun climate, he's as likely to be found cleaning carts or cooking in the kitchen as in his office or running the pro shop. During the golf season, running Waubeeka has been a sunrise to sunset -- and sometimes past dark -- job.
"My new employment will give me more time to spend with my children on a year-round basis, not just during my winter hiatus," he explained in his email.
