'Slam I Am': The Slam I Am open poetry slam for teens will be held on Thursday, beginning at 6 p.m., at the North Adams Public Library. The competition is open to the first eight poets to register, first-come, first-served. Poets will compete in three rounds. The judges will be randomly selected by the audience. The event is free and open to the public.
This month's featured poet will be Melissa Quirk, and Jake "Phoenix" Snow will emcee.
Volunteers wanted: The Northern Berkshire Neighbors program of the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition is seeking community-minded individuals to take part in a free Community Outreach Training program. Ideal participants must be committed to making positive change in the Northern Berkshires and learning how to assist residents in accessing available health and human services. The training will take place over 15 consecutive weeks for two hours a week beginning on Jan. 17, from 10 a.m. to noon.

PHS Holiday Concert: The Pittsfield High School concert band, chorus and jazz ensemble will present a holiday concert on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium.
Under the direction of Ronald Lively, band students will perform a varied program of holiday medleys and favorites. The PHS chorus, under the direction of Gaylan Palmer, will add to the holiday spirit. Sophomore and piano soloist Paul Celebi will perform J.S. Bach's "Invention No. 4 in D minor." The jazz ensemble also will perform.
The concert is free and open to the general public. Donations will be accepted for the band's spring trip to Quebec City, Canada.
Holiday music and crafts: On Saturday, the Marketplace Café will host a holiday party. Craft-making will begin at 5:30 p.m. A concert featuring Katherine Winston, Blueberry Buckle, and other special guests begins at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
On Sunday from 1 to 2:30 p.m., arts studio Bisque, Beads & Beyond will host a ceramic mitten plate-making workshop for kids. Staff will help children write a special name or message on their plate. The cost of this workshop is $21 and includes materials. Registration is required and can be done by calling (413) 442-9300. Bisque, Beads & Beyond is at 141 North St., Pittsfield.
'Christmas Bird Count': North Berkshire Audubon invites area bird watchers to participate in the 113th national Christmas Bird Count, from Dec. 14 through Jan. 5.
The North Berkshire Audubon counting event will be held on Saturday. The 24-hour count period begins at midnight Friday and extends to midnight Saturday.
Teams of at least two people will visit as many habitats as possible during the day, and also go out owling, to identify as many species and count as many birds as possible.
People in the area are also encouraged to track and report birds at their feeders. At the end of the day the tracking groups will convene at Sheep Hill, the Williamstown Rural Lands Foundation's headquarters on Route 7 in Williamstown, for the count-up potluck.
