Free painting classes: The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute, at 225 South St., Williamstown, will host free drop-in watercolor workshops every Tuesday in July, from 2 to 6 p.m., and every Saturday in August, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The workshop is designed for people of all ages and skill levels. Local artists Andrew Davis and Claire Fox will provide instruction.

K'NEX contest: The K'NEXpert Search challenges young builders to design and submit a creative, original model made entirely from K'NEX parts and are judged on creativity, uniqueness and detail.
The annual contest will have four grand prize winners from four different age groups. Age groups include: 5-6 years old; 7-8 years old; 9-11 years old; and 12-14 years old. Eight finalists will be chosen.
The winners will each receive: $2,500, an iPad Mini, a $250 gift card to Toys “R” Us, and a $500 K'NEX credit code good toward a shopping spree at knex.com.

Starry nights: Williams College will continue to host free, public shows detailing the night sky at the Milham Planetarium, inside the Old Hopkins Observatory at Williams College, Main Street, Williamstown.
Programs are offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 8 p.m.through Aug. 15 (except July 4). Shows will last about 50 minutes.

Author visits: The Lee Library Association has two author story time and book signing events coming up this month. These events are free and open to the public, and the books are recommended for ages 3 to 10. Today, from 11 a.m. to noon, Carol L. Levy will read her 2012 children's book, “Elphy Grey,” about a boy and an enchanted friend.
On Thursday, July 11, also from 11 a.m. to noon, local author Jana Laiz will read her newly published picture book “Thomas and Autumn,” about a boy and a baby chicken.

‘Summer of Inspiration' workshop series: Berkshire Writers Room is announcing its Summer of Inspiration series of four special writing workshops, which are free and open to the public. All the workshops will be held at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts in Pittsfield.
