Tree lighting ceremonies: Both Pittsfield and North Adams will host their tree-lighting ceremonies this week.
Santa Claus and his helpers will be on hand in North Adams on Wednesday at 5 p.m., at Monument Square on Main Street, between the First Congregational and First Baptist churches.
The Drury High School Band will perform some holiday music, and the First Baptist Church will give away hot chocolate. After the tree lighting, the North Adams Fire Department's antique Mack fire engine will make its way through downtown to host the arrival Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, bearing gifts for the first 300 children.
Pittsfield's tree-lighting festivities will take place on Friday. From 5 to 8 p.m., Berkshire Museum on South Street will offer music, refreshments and half-price admission. The Berkshire Hills Chorus and Taconic High School Chorus will perform from 5:30 to 6 on Park Square. The tree-lighting takes place at 6. The Taconic choir will stick around afterward to serenade a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Free hot chocolate will be served, courtesy of Patrick's Pub.
