STOCKBRIDGE -- Berkshire Lyric will present its Young Singers Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Congregational Church in Stockbridge.
This annual concert features Berkshire Lyric’s Blafield Children’s Chorus and the Berkshire Singers. It will also include this year’s three high school-age winners of the 2014 Young Singers Competition: Sarah Solari, a soprano from Bennington, Vt.; Jacob Kerzner, a tenor from Sheffield, and Kyle Miller, a baritone from Dalton. They will perform their winning selections at this concert. The Joy Barnes grand prize will be awarded at the end of the program.
The Blafield Children’s Chorus is named in honor of Berkshire Lyric founder and Director Emeritus Robert Blafield of Richmond and is made up of children ages 6 to 13 from throughout the county and surrounding area. They are directed by Berkshire Lyric Artistic Director Jack Brown. The chorus sings regularly in a variety of programs with the adult Berkshire Lyric Chorus and will sing with them again at Tanglewood’s Seiji Ozawa Hall at the Masterworks Concert on June 1.
Last summer they were a guest children’s chorus at the Berkshire Choral Festival performing in Benjamin Britten’s "Spring Symphony." They rehearse Saturday mornings in Pittsfield.
The Berkshire Singers is made up of high school-age singers and is led by Berkshire Lyric’s regular accompanist and arranger, Joe Rose.
The Young Singers Concert is one part of Berkshire Lyric’s year round educational efforts, including the annual Young Singer’s Competition, the Summer Blafield Chorus Choral Camps and the Choral Scholars Program for outstanding local high school-age singers.
The concert is free and open to the public. Donations to benefit the educational programs of Berkshire Lyric will be accepted. For more information, contact Berkshire Lyric at berkshirelyricinfo.org or (413) 298-5365.
