'Summer @ Waldorf': The Waldorf High School in Stockbridge is offering a new "Summer @ Waldorf," program for students entering grades 7 through 12 in the fall. Sessions combine science, math and art classes in the morning with afternoon outdoor field trips.
Sessions will be held daily, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., as follows: "Optics, Color & Light," June 23-27; "Rockets, Puzzles and Shopping," June 30-July 3 (closed July 4); "Water: Chemistry and Flow," July 7-11; "Winter Holiday in July: Handmade Tech Gifts," July 14-18; "Growth: Nature and Math," July 21 - 25; "Weather: Build a Weather Station," July 28-Aug. 1. Cost is $290 per week ($240 for week of July 4); $800 for three weeks or $1,500 for the complete six-week program.
The final two weeks of "Summer @Waldorf," Aug. 11-15 and Aug. 18-22, include German and Spanish language and algebra and geometry math intensives, and SAT I and II prep courses. Foundation Center workshop: The Berkshire Athenaeum in Pittsfield from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Thursday will host a free workshop on how to use the Foundation Center website (foundationcenter.org) and its resources to locate grant funding resources.
Berkshire Mountain Bike Training Series: Berkshire Cycling Association (BCA) will kick off its free Berkshire Bike Race Series at Springside Park in Pittsfield tonight beginning at 6 with a kid's race. The main event starts at 6:30. Participants are encouraged to show up early to register. Food vendors will be available. Volunteers are welcomed.
Family Fun Day at Pleasant Valley: Mass Audubon's Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary welcomes all to Family Fun Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, rain or shine, at 472 West Mountain Road in Lenox. Underwritten by Greylock Federal Credit Union, all activities at this event are free and open to the public.
Caravan Puppets presents at 11, "Four Season Bear!" Musician George Wilson performs at noon. Brian Bradley's "Skyhunters in Flight," a live raptor program, will soar at 1, followed by Tom Tyning's "Stupendous Snakes" at 3.
There will also be art activities, and demonstrations with the Berkshire Environmental Action Team and the Northern Berkshire Beekeepers. Guided nature walks are offered all day.
