Pittsfield summer school: Registration is open for the Pittsfield Public Schools' 2014 Summer School Program for students entering grades 6 through 12. The program will be based at Taconic High School, 96 Valentine Road.
Courses will run Monday through Friday, July 7 to Aug. 8, with two ses sions available. A shuttle bus will be available to take students from Pittsfield High School to Taconic and back each day. Breakfast and lunch will be avail able daily.
To register, students must obtain written authorization from the school where the final grades will be sent, indicating the course selection and verifying that a minimum grade of 40 was earned during the past school year. Registration will take place at the Mercer Adminis tration Building, 269 First St., from noon to 4 p.m. on Monday, June 30, and 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 1 and 2.
Tuition is free for students in the district, $200 per course for out-of-district students.
A 12-class driver's education course will be offered from 8 to 10:30 a.m., July 7 through 22, for $90.

Law school scholarship: Applications are being accepted from Berkshire County residents for the Frank H. Wright Memorial Fund Scholarship, the general fund scholarship of the Berkshire Bar Association. Applicants are judged on financial need, academic achievement, and community service commitment. The deadline for all applications is Aug. 6.

'Hawthorne in the Berkshires': Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts will host "Hawthorne in the Berkshires: The Nathaniel Haw thorne Society Biennial Summer Meeting" on Thursday through Sunday. The conference will include a free public plenary address by Larry J. Reynolds, Ph.D., a University Distin guished Professor and the Thomas Franklin Mayo Professor of Liberal Arts at Texas A&M University.
Reynold's talk, "Divine Omni potence and Suffering Humanity: Hawthorne's Answer to Ahab," will take place at 1:15 p.m. on Friday, on the MCLA campus, in room 218 of Murdock Hall. Information: facebook.com/hawthorneintheberkshires.
Summer camp at Mountain Road School: Mountain Road School will present "Art and the Elements in Play," three weeks of summer camp celebrating nature and the arts, from July 7 to 25. Camp will be held daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a group for ages 3 to 7 and for ages 8 and older.
Campers are welcome to sign up for one week or all three at $275 a week. Discounts are available.

Volunteers wanted: Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are being sought for the "Get Outdoors Day" program to be held Saturday at Springside Park, Pittsfield.
People are needed to help man tables, run activities, coordinate parking and carry equipment. From 8 to 10:30 a.m., there is a great need for help setting up tents, tables and chairs, as well as help breaking down from 4 to 6 p.m.
