PITTSFIELD — The Pittsfield High School Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble returned to the city on Monday, May 9 after having earned "Superior" and "Excellent" ratings from adjudicators at a competition held at Université Laval in Quebec City, Canada.
Both ensembles performed concert and contest level music and were rated on their execution of tone quality, intonation, technique, balance and blend, interpretation and stage presence.
Band Director Ronald Lively said, "This festival focused on the concept of ensembles competing against themselves through establishing how far to raise the bar and in turn convince the judges that they have met the highest of standards."
The band raises funds for this trip through special events like the April 8 concert with Tusk, a Fleetwood Mac tribute band, held at Berkshire Community College.
"The Pittsfield community contributed greatly towards the success of this trip," said Lively.
The four-day, three-night music festival included "Quebec-by-Nite," a ferry boat ride across the St. Lawrence River, and visits along the Beaupre Coast to the Basilique Sainte-Anne de Breaupre and the Montmorency Waterfall.
