Berkshire Horseworks will host its first annual scavenger hunt, "Horses and Hikers for Healing" at 10 a.m. on Saturday, to benefit children, veterans, and families in the Berkshires suffering from mental and behavioral challenges. The scavenger hunt will start and end at Berkshire Equestrian Center, 40 Perry's Peak Road, Richmond, traversing the 3-mile Berkshire Natural Resources Council "Hollow Fields" nature trail. A barbecue and hoedown celebration with food, games and more starts at 1. Teams and individuals should register with Hayley Sumner at 310-488-9777 or info@berkshirehorseworks.com. Registration starts at $35 per individual. Celebration-only admission is $10 for youths, $25 for adults up to $50 for a family of five.

Applications are now open for the 2017 Jane Ortner Education Award. Established by the GRAMMY Museum in partnership with Chuck Ortner — entertainment attorney, museum board member and husband of the late public school teacher, Jane Ortner — it is open to K-12 educators who integrate music into teaching social science/history, English language arts, math, science, and other academic subjects.
