WILLIAMSTOWN — This weekend, local residents and visitors to the Berkshire will be able meet a unique delegation of 25 Israeli, Palestinian, and American high school students who have been living and working together at the Buxton School, through the three-week Artsbridge Intercultural Leadership Program.
Joining Artsbridge Inc., a Boston area nonprofit, to produce this year's program, is Berkshires-based, Music in Common. Both organizations have used the visual and performing arts to bring people in conflict together. Until now, each had their own summer program that brought Palestinian and Israeli teens to the states and this is the first year the two have partnered to produce their programs together as one.
Art classes and dialogue sessions are held daily, The students' collaborative art works will be publicly presented for the first time at the banquet and showcase.
The "Celebrate Our Changemakers Banquet" takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, at the Buxton School, 291 South St., in Williamstown. This intimate evening of engagement includes dinner with the students as well as a sneak peek of their finished artwork, along with film screenings and musical performances. There will also be an auction of exciting items, including student and staff artwork. Tickets are $75 per person, with all proceeds going to offset summer program expenses. The showcase takes place on campus, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. This event will be free and open to the public. All student works will be displayed, screened, and performed, and students will be on hand to meet guests and talk about their projects and their experiences in the program. Light refreshments and a barbecue lunch will be available.
