In a letter to the editor of April 25, Timothea Neary French expressed distress and surprise at the failure of the Berkshire Hills Regional School District to reveal that an abuse investigation happened at the time that it happened and for what reasons. At some point we need to ask ourselves, who is at fault here? Is it the parents for not asking why? Someone must have known at the time. Or is it the district’s for not telling?
There has, indeed, been an utterly disastrous lapse in judgment and responsibility on the part of the School Committee, Chairman Bannon, then-Superintendent Donna Moyer, and Principal Robert Putnam in this matter, and it’s very unfortunate that otherwise good people would make such a mistake. And that is all it may truly be, a mistake which, as humans, is something that we all make at some point or another.
But, in the end, yes, we have been failed, and I want to know why.
