While I applaud Jim Massery's enthusiastic comments about Barrington Stage Company's production of "Fiddler on the Roof" (letter, June 28), I am afraid that same enthusiasm overtook truth. Jerome Robbins, not Gary John La Rosa, directed Zero Mostel in the 1964 original production, and, yes, Mr. Robbins was also the choreographer. However, Mr. La Rosa did appear in the third Broadway revival which opened much later in 1990.
As a former director of communications and education for Actors' Equity Association, I know that Mr. Robbins has always zealously guarded his credits. Thus, out of respect for him, I am compelled to correct the record in the Eagle.
