It is everyone's responsibility for pedestrians to cross the streets safely -- both drivers and crossers.
Drivers need to pay closer attention to the crosswalks; crossers need to pause and not just stride into the crosswalk without looking.
Pedestrians have to cross at the crosswalks. Far too many of them, locals and guests, cross wherever they want, dragging children and expecting all cars to stop for them and then getting angry when they don't.
I watch it every day in the middle of Great Barrington; it's too much effort to go to the crosswalks. They also like to cross against the green lights because they think the crosswalk gives them that right, but it doesn't.
Care and consideration is required by both for the safety of the crossers and drivers.
