There is currently a special permit application before the Planning Board of Great Barrington. The applicant, Barrington Brook LLC and Stone Path Development, proposes building a development of 59 four- or five-bedroom homes on property very close to Lake Mansfield and the road going directly past it.
The estimated traffic flow of an additional 610 vehicle trips a day may be within the safety capacity of Great Barrington roads, but there is no way this increase in traffic volume will be in the best interests of the town.
The traffic impact would be enormous if the development were built today, but factor in the upcoming loss of the two right-hand turn lanes (Taconic Avenue and Bridge Street) and the traffic impact will approach being unbearable, not to mention dangerous.
A reduction in the proposed number of building units might be a solution to this impending nightmare.
