I am writing to urge Massa chusetts voters to vote yes for death with dignity, which will be ballot question 2 in the Nov. 6 election.
This initiative offers an op tion to people in the final and most painful stage of terminal illness. I have watched as several family members and friends suffered the agony of their last days, wishing for the relief of death to come. My mother’s final weeks of life while suffering from breast cancer were torture for her. A dear friend suffered excruciating agony and desperation waiting for Lou Gehrig’s disease to finally take him. At times during their final days, both would have certainly opted to end their own suffering.
The death with dignity ballot initiative, similar to laws already passed in other states, lets the dying patient decide when to end the agony, with the support of their doctors. The law has many safeguards built in to protect the patient, which can be viewed at www.dignity2012.org
I urge all to vote yes on Question 2.
