As Sandy fades away leaving its damage on the Northeast coast and elsewhere, it is a good time to remember some past pronouncements by Mr. Romney.
He asserted in one of the primary debates that FEMA should be returned to the states, adding "Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that’s the right direction. And if you can go even further and send it back to the private sector, that’s even better." This reminds us of Blackwater Security Corpo ration and the millions it made at the expense of taxpayers’ money for botched projects in Iraq. And after state funds have been depleted by his and Paul Ryan’s budget how on earth are the states going to face the disaster that such hurricanes bring to people and our economy. People in New York, New Jersey and other coastal states must be happy in their despair that emergency responders have not yet been decimated by the Ryan budget.
So it is good today to remember that congressional Repub licans, who will dictate Rom ney’s agenda if he is elected, have constantly refused FEMA’s budget requests, demanding that other valuable programs be cut to pay for them. A fury of privatizations will ensue after a Romney victory.
We might also use this time to remember that it is the same Romney who said "Let Detroit go bankrupt!" and now claims that Chrysler is shipping Jeep production to China, an assertion that Chrysler heads have already publicly denounced as a lie.
Only history will be able to inventory the lies that Mr. Romney has used to become president. We would be fools to buy into them for the coming four years.
