Should fast food places respect Old Glory or just run her up the pole occasionally to appease the masses? The American flag at Wendy’s, 556 Hubbard Avenue in Pittsfield, is/was one of the largest flags in the area, but they seem to have a difficult time understanding exactly what it means to fly the flag normally vs. flying it at half-staff.
Does Wendy’s just get a call from corporate and send out a fry slinger to configure the flag? Who’s in charge of this operation? Does the manager not know what to do? Is the manager American? When are people going to realize that a damaged or improperly displayed flag would be better off not displayed at all? Don’t ever pretend that your old and tattered flag is a sign of respect, because it’s not!
It’s so easy to look up respectful ways to display the flag on the Internet. If you don’t have access to the Internet then go to the VFW and get a pamphlet. It’s so simple!
Unfortunately, Pittsfield has committed the same offense. If you drive down South Street you’ll see the poorly displayed and faded flags that should have been removed months ago. Nice job, Mayor.
