I have had the pleasure to know Mike McCarthy, both professionally and personally, for years. Mike was, and still is, an excellent choice for a judgeship in Berkshire County. Why is it that when we send to Boston an excellent example of the best of what the Berkshires have to offer, it is rejected by big city politicians playing political games?

Mike McCarthy has an excellent résumé for the job and he was supported by an extensive and respected cross section of community leaders, colleagues, friends and Berkshire political representatives. But instead, he was treated like a political football by politicians who care little for either the people or needs of Berkshire County. Unfortunately this makes it even easier to understand why politicians and the current "political process," with few exceptions, are now held in such low regard.

Gov. Patrick should persist with his nomination of Michael McCarthy to the bench and give the people of Berkshire County what we both want and need -- an honest, capable, and respected judge for Southern Berkshire District Court.
