I am writing to express my concerns regarding the pay as you drive gas tax plan based on motorist mileage. I can not believe this plan has been co-sponsored by a state representative from the Berkshires. Why should we punish drivers who lack access to public transportation to help subsidize urban transit authorities.
The proposal would also affect people that rely on their vehicles to make a living, and the tax is regressive. Voters from rural communities are being asked to pay a disproportionate amount of the tax compared to people from the eastern part of the state. Hopefully, our elected leaders will vote for the best interests of their constituents. JOHN DITOMASSO
