I am totally in agreement with letter writer Gary Van Bramer (Eagle, March 25) in regard to the skittish (read: backward) behavior of those local officials who argue that towns should have time to "think" about what the presence of a medical marijuana dispensary in their community really means.
If you think about it, what does it really mean? It means that such a dispensary would be operating in exactly the same fashion as would any other pharmacy (chain or small business) already doing business in our towns and cities.
Along with other positive considerations Mayor Bianchi of Pittsfield may be sensing a good business opportunity to come. There is a broad demographic of men and women in their 50s or 60s (or older) who are suffering from ailments which they know can be eased through the use of medical marijuana.
The letter writer is right to be outraged. He, like I, would feel cheated if we were forced to drive to the other end of Berkshire County to obtain our legal medicine because of myopia right here in our own towns.
