I agree with letter writer Carole Schwimmer’s suggestion (April 12) that the owners of the empty Patriot Suites consider making affordable senior apartments. Many of my aging friends, myself included, have lost their spouse and are having difficulties living alone and maintaining their larger homes.

It is very difficult to down-size at an affordable price in the Berkshire area, especially when the area continues to cater to the wealthy transient tourists. We don’t need another Hilton hotel; we need to aid and protect our year-round senior population who are the backbone of the community.
