To the editor of THE EAGLE:

As the co-chairs of the Mount Greylock Regional School District (MGRSD) School Building Committee, we are writing to remind the voters of Lanesborough and Williamstown about an important issue that will appear in the warrant articles at their town meetings, and to ask for their support.

The warrant article concerns the approval of a feasibility study for the Mount Greylock School. MGRSD was invited by the MSBA to participate in their school capital program, and the approval of a feasibility study is a mandatory step as we move the process.

A feasibility study will research and identify options, such as base repair, renovation, or rebuilding, that the towns can consider in addressing the needs of the aging oversized Mount Greylock facility. It is critical to note that there is no "zero-cost" option. Without a comprehensive study in partnership with the MSBA, the two towns will be left without a plan and forced to bear the entire cost of bringing the building up to current educational, safety, and legal standards. MGRSD has a unique opportunity to move forward on conducting a feasibility study with financial assistance from MSBA. Remember that a "yes" vote for the feasibility study does not commit the towns to any of the options that result from the study.

We are asking for the voters in Williamstown and Lanesborough to come and support the feasibility study by voting "yes" at their respective town meetings: Today in Williamstown and June 10 in Lanesborough. Free child care will be provided at both meetings. Please come and vote "yes."
