To the editor of THE EAGLE:

Friday, many heads of states will gather on Sword Beach, Normandy, France to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the invasion of Normandy by the allied forces.

As a Frenchwoman who has now lived in the US for 25 years and was naturalized an American citizen 13 years ago, I hold this day close to my heart. My great grandparents and mother were forced to share half of their house for many years with the German troops and from an early age my parents have always told me to remember the day of liberation of France by the American GIs and to be thankful for all the young men who came to save us despite their fear of the unknown.

Seventy years later, from the bottom of my heart, I thank them again.
