To the editor of THE EAGLE:
On January 17, it was Dr. Trevor Bayliss who gave me and my children the hard news that my 73-year-old husband had untreatable lung cancer. I was overwhelmed by his diagnosis, of course, but ever so moved by the compassionate and patient way he told us. He stayed with us for 90 minutes, even welcoming our tears, while we tried to digest the news.
Now I know the back story [Eagle, June 1] of his amazing bout with cancer himself, which partly explains his deep empathy. I immediately sent an email to at least a dozen friends saying how fortunate we were to have him as our oncologist for the three short weeks before my husband died on February 9.
Welcome back to the Berkshires, Dr. Bayliss, we are so lucky to have you here!
