To the editor of THE EAGLE:
More than 2,700 free meals were served between September and June at the Lee community dinners! This would not have been possible without the participation and hard work of a large number of people.
Two teams of volunteers from Lee Congregational Church and one team from the Tri-Town Rotary Club each purchased food, cooked, served and cleaned up one evening each month. On the first Wednesday every month a team of volunteers from the dental offices of Jay Wise in Lee and Delair, Edwards and Krol in Stockbridge served meals provided by local restaurants. These included Bombay Grill, Chez Nous, Sullivan Station, The Locker Room, Arizona Pizza, Salmon Run, Cork ‘N Hearth, and The Marketplace Café. Guido’s donated fresh produce once a month for glorious salads.
In addition volunteers from The Kiwanis and Lions Club of Lee provided and served meals on fifth Wednesdays and a team of staff from Kripalu served one special meal complete with cloth table cloths and napkins. Marilyn Fennelly and Judy Morehouse each made a special dessert one night every month. Students and faculty from the college internship program set up tables and chairs every week. Volunteers from the Boy Scouts, the Lee Congregational Church Youth Group and Monument Mountain Regional High School came to help.
There is something special about breaking bread together, and on Wednesday nights in Lee there is something very special. Meals will begin again in mid-September.
