To the editor of THE EAGLE:

One of my favorite quotes on volunteering and community service is Maya Angelou’s "I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw something back." This Saturday at 6 p.m. under the tent on the Memorial Lawn in Dalton, the Community Recreation Association will hold our 40th annual W. Murray Crane Volunteer Recognition and Gib Kittredge Award night to honor our committed volunteers who time after time throw something back to their community with their selfless dedication of time and talent. The CRA would not be able to accomplish our mission to provide social, educational, cultural and recreational activities in a safe, healthy and welcoming environment without the valuable contributions of our 1,200 volunteers.

Saturday night we will honor Ken Whitestone with the Gib Kittredge Volunteer Award, Marty, Robyn Huban with the W. Murray Crane Community Service Award, and Rachel McMahon and Ryan McMahon with the Norman "Pop" Smith Youth of the Year awards. We look forward to celebrating and recognizing the generosity of spirit that makes our community the wonderful place it is to live and work.
