To the editor of THE EAGLE:
For all those out there who are scoffing at the Ice Bucket Challenge and saying things like "I don’t see how posting a video of yourself dumping a bucket of ice water on your head is going to help people with ALS," I say this: Never in my lifetime have I ever seen this much attention given to ALS or to ALS charities.
Some ALS charities have reported that in two weeks they have received the same amount of donations that they would normally receive in two months. There are plenty of people out there who, before this challenge, had no idea what ALS was, that it was an ultimately fatal disease, or how it slowly robs its victims of all muscular movement while leaving their brains intact. It is an awful disease and I have lost too many patients to it.
So, quit your grumbling, get out your checkbook, and make a donation. Then go dump some ice water on your head as a penance for being such a grouch.
