Searles served town, new hotel is needed

To the editor:

A hotel and conference center within walking distance of Main Street Great Barrington is a no-brainer. It would bring customers to the businesses on Main Street, it would provide jobs for local people and it would add to our tax base.

The former Searles High is deteriorating, vandals have been in there, and as the roof starts to leak (if it isn't already) the interior will suffer more damage. The building annex should be torn down anyway as it was never a comfortable building.

The Searles school building has served its purpose and should be replaced with something that would bring revenue into town. I went to Searles and would not be sorry to see it torn down.
